New Delhi. Online food delivery platform Zomato has increased its platform fee ahead of the festive season. According to a notification on Zomato's app, this fee has now been increased from Rs 7 to Rs 10. The company said, "This fee helps us meet our expenses to run Zomato smoothly. It has been increased slightly to maintain services during the festivals."

Zomato first introduced a platform fee of Rs 2 in August 2023, after which it was increased to Rs 3. Then on January 1, this fee was increased to Rs 4. Now with this increase, it has reached ₹ 10. This represents an increase of 500 percent. This change in platform fee has come at a time when the company is claiming to improve its services and provide seamless service to the customers.

Financial performance and increase in revenue
Zomato has reported a net profit of Rs 176 crore in the second quarter of the current financial year ended 30 September 2024. In the same quarter of the previous financial year, the company had earned a net profit of Rs 36 crore. This growth shows that the company's operational strategy and customer base have improved. The consolidated operational revenue of the company stood at Rs 4,799 crore in this quarter as against Rs 2,848 crore in the same period last year. The company said that the total expenditure also stood at Rs 4,783 crore during this period, as against Rs 3,039 crore in the same period last year.

The company's expansion and financial plan
Zomato's board has recently approved raising capital of Rs 8,500 crore, which will be done by selling equity shares through qualified institutional placement. This amount will be used to expand the company and further improve its services. In the recent past, Zomato has achieved great success in taking its food delivery service to every corner of the country. During the festive season, the company has taken steps to further improve the ease of its services and the experience of consumers, which also includes this increase in platform fees.
