Stock market holiday: The stock markets will be closed on 20 November 2024. This day will be Wednesday. There will be no trading of any kind in either the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) or the National Stock Exchange (NSE). But why is this a holiday? Because in the calendar that was released earlier, there was no mention of a holiday on this day.

In fact, in view of the upcoming assembly elections in Maharashtra, trading activities will remain closed on November 20, 2024 in both the exchanges. There will be no trading in the equity segment, equity derivatives segment and security lending and borrowing (SLB) segment on this day.

Trading in the currency derivatives segment will also remain suspended in the Indian stock market. Apart from this, trading in the commodity derivatives and electronic gold receipts (EGR) segment will also remain closed. This means that there will be no activity on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) and National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on November 20, 2024.

Counting will be done on 23rd
The Election Commission of India (ECI) had announced the dates for the upcoming assembly elections in Maharashtra on 15 October 2024. As per the schedule, voters of Maharashtra will exercise their franchise in a single phase on November 20. Counting of votes will take place on November 23 and the results will be declared on the same day.

The current term of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly ends on November 26. This time the state will see a direct contest between two alliances - the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), which includes Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP (Sharad Pawar) and Congress, and the Mahayuti alliance, which includes BJP, Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) and NCP (Ajit Pawar).

When was the holiday in the calendar
According to the list of stock market holidays for 2024, the Indian stock market was also closed on the occasion of Diwali on November 1, 2024. A special one-hour Muhurat trading session was held from 6:00 pm to 7:10 pm on November 1, marking the beginning of the new Hindu calendar. Apart from this, the stock market will also remain closed on the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti on November 15. There will be another stock market holiday on December 25, Christmas Day, in December 2024.
