53 medicines including painkillers and fever medicines failed the quality test recently. Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) released its list. It also expressed apprehension that these medicines can be dangerous for humans. Every person takes medicine as soon as he falls ill so that his health improves quickly. But not every medicine needs to have the same effect on every person. Especially the same medicine affects the body of men and women differently.

Women's and men's bodies are different.
Even though the medicine is the same, it has different effects on men and women and the reason for this is hormones. While estrogen and progesterone hormones are produced in women, testosterone hormones are released in men. Due to their hormones, medicines have different effects on the bodies of both. Endocrinologist Dr. Vinod Bokadia says that every person's body is different from each other and medicines can also show different effects, but sometimes if women have any problem related to the menstrual cycle, then medicines can work differently.

Does fever medicine work faster in women? A study was published in
the US National Library of Medicine . This study was on the fever medicine paracetamol. It found that compared to men, women who were in the follicular and luteal phase of the menstrual cycle, had a peak plasma concentration of this medicine in their body and the effect was quick. This effect was 48% in the follicular phase and 66% in the luteal phase. Every woman's menstrual cycle starts from the first day of her period. The time from the beginning of the period to 12 days is called the follicular phase. After this, an egg is formed in the woman's body which is called the fertility phase or ovulation phase. When this egg is not fertile, then from the 17th to the 28th day the body works towards the process of periods which is called the luteal phase.

Men's pain goes away quickly! According to a study on painkillers published in
Medical News Today, men's pain goes away faster than women's. Hormones fluctuate in women's bodies, which also affects their ability to bear pain. There is an immune cell called microglia in the brain. If it is blocked, the pain can stop but these cells are present only in men's bodies. Women have T cells in their brains, if their quantity is not high then they have to go through more pain.

Hormones play a role in pain According to
Healthline, women who have high levels of estrogen hormones have a thicker uterine lining, which causes them to have severe pain along with heavy bleeding during periods. These hormones cause unbearable pain in the body of women. If their level is normal, then the pain does not bother them much. On the other hand, men who have low levels of testosterone in their bodies may also have to go through unbearable pain.

Need for different vitamins Women's bodies are more deficient in vitamins and minerals because due to the menstrual cycle, iron, folate, and calcium are deficient in their bodies. Women's body needs vitamins C, E, B6, K, and Vitamin D. On the other hand, men's body is different from women's. Men's body needs vitamin B12, vitamin D, and selenium. Therefore, these medicines fulfill different deficiencies in the body of both. According to Healthline, multivitamin tablets reduce the risk of cancer by 31% in men, whereas no such effect was seen in women.

Does the effect change after menopause?
When girls start having periods at the age of 13-14 years, their reproductive cycle continues till menopause. But as soon as menopause occurs, their ovaries stop working and the production of estrogen and progesterone hormones stops. When the fluctuations of hormones in the body stop, then to some extent medicines can show the same effect on the body as on men.

Disease but different treatment:
New Zealand Heart Research Institute: The heart of women is smaller in size than that of men and their blood vessels are also smaller, therefore the symptoms of heart attack are different. During this time women feel heaviness in the chest and feel very tired but men feel pain in the chest during this time. For the same heart disease, both are treated differently. Apart from the heart, there is a different treatment for neuro-related diseases also. The reason behind this is their hormones.
