New Delhi. Before the assembly elections to be held in Delhi next year, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has suffered a major setback. Senior AAP leader and Transport Minister of the Atishi Marlena government Kailash Gehlot has left the party. Kailash Gehlot may have resigned from AAP today, but if sources are to be believed, the differences between Gehlot and the AAP leadership started on August 15 itself. Gehlot had started feeling pain in his heart over the hoisting of the national flag in the Independence Day celebrations of the Delhi government.
In fact, at that time Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was in jail on charges related to the alleged liquor policy scam. In such a situation, the flag hoisting program became a topic of discussion. Kejriwal had instructed that Delhi's then Education Minister Atishi should do this work. However, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena intervened and declared Kejriwal's instructions invalid. He entrusted the responsibility of flag hoisting to Delhi Home Minister Kailash Gehlot.
There was a conflict between the Delhi government and the LG.
The logic behind the Lieutenant Governor's decision was that the Delhi Police comes under the Home Department and the formal march past is also organized by the police. However, this move created a conflict between the AAP-led Delhi government and the Lieutenant Governor's office.
AAP had accused LG of trying to weaken their government. AAP had termed LG's move as 'petty politics'. Atishi criticized LG VK Saxena's decision, calling it a 'dictatorship', and questioned the BJP's commitment to democracy. It seems that by following LG's instructions, Gehlot has created tension in his relationship with Kejriwal and AAP.
Let us tell you that in December last year, the Law Department was taken away from Gehlot and given to Atishi. According to sources, the department had a lot of pending work, due to which this decision was taken. After this, Gehlot's resentment started and today it ended with his severing ties with the party.
Gehlot's attack on Kejriwal
Kailash Gehlot, in his resignation letter to AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, pointed out the 'serious challenges' facing the party. Gehlot also raised some controversies like 'Sheeshmahal' while taking a dig at Kejriwal and said that this makes everyone doubt whether 'we still consider ourselves 'aam aadmi'. Gehlot, who was in charge of the Home, Administrative Reforms, IT, and Women and Child Development departments, said that AAP is fighting for its political agenda instead of fighting for the rights of the people.
In a letter to Arvind Kejriwal, Gehlot said, 'Aam Aadmi Party is facing serious challenges. These challenges are for the same values that brought us together in AAP. Our commitment towards the people was left behind in front of political ambitions, due to which many promises could not be fulfilled.'
On the other hand, AAP leaders said that Gehlot is facing cases with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and he has no option left except to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). They alleged that this is a 'disgusting political conspiracy' of the BJP and it wants to win the Delhi assembly elections by misusing ED and CBI.
