There is a lot of commotion in the politics of Maharashtra these days. On one hand, the face of the Chief Minister is not being decided in the Mahayuti, while on the other hand, Baba Adhav's hunger strike has heated up the political temperature. Baba Adhav is leading a movement against EVM. He believes that the results of Maharashtra have come like this because of EVM. He is so angry that he is not even ready to drink water. The situation has reached such a point that Sharad Pawar, who is considered the Chanakya of Maharashtra, Uddhav Thackeray, and Ajit Pawar reached out to persuade him.
95-year-old Baba Adhav is a social worker from Pune. He was born on 1 June 1930. His entire life tells a story of movements. He was the coordinator of Rashtra Seva Dal from 1943 to 1950. He did satyagraha against inflation in 1952. He went to jail for the first time then. In 1953, a medicine shop was opened at his residence in Nana Peth. He has been actively involved in the Gomantak Mukti movement. He participated in the Samyukta Maharashtra movement in 1957. He ran many campaigns to make the elderly literate.
Whether it was the formation of 'Jhopdi Sangh' in 1959 or working for the people living in slums, Baba Badhav was at the forefront. He had to go to jail due to many movements. Then he entered politics in 1961 and by 1967 was elected to Pune Municipal Corporation from Nana Peth constituency. He contested the mayoral election, but lost by just one vote. Later he himself resigned. People of Maharashtra still remember the 'Ek Gaon, Ek Jal' movement, due to which many areas got water. Whether it was the 1984 Bhiwandi riots or the matter of raising money for the victims of the Marathwada earthquake, he was always at the forefront. He created history by gathering 50,000 auto drivers to form a 'Rickshaw Panchayat' in Pune. Because of him, the Parliament had to pass a bill.
Why is he in the news now?
Baba Adhav has been very angry ever since the results of the Maharashtra elections have come out. He feels that such results have come due to EVM tampering. He is agitating to remove EVMs from elections. He has been on hunger strike for three days. He says that the way this election was influenced by money and power has never happened before. He says that his agitation will continue until EVMs are removed.
Sharad Pawar and Uddhav Thackeray reached
to convince Baba Adhav. Sharad Pawar told him, the way you have questions about these results, similarly, there is restlessness in the hole of Maharashtra. Baba Adhav asked Sharad Pawar that how can there be so much difference between the results of Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha. On this Sharad Pawar directly raised questions on EVM. Sharad Pawar said, we did not think that such a big game would be played in this election. There will have to be a public revolt against this, otherwise it is a dangerous sign for democracy.
What did Uddhav say
after meeting Sharad Pawar Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar also reached Baba Adhav and tried to convince him. But Devendra Fadnavis did not go due to being busy with many programs. Uddhav Thackeray said, the issue that Baba Adhav is raising is very important. Voices should be raised against it across the country. Voices should be raised from every street. This is important for democracy. Ajit Pawar explained to him the Election Commission's words. Told him about the Supreme Court's order. Tried to explain that there is no fault in EVMs.
