New Delhi. Indian cricket team's star batsman Virat Kohli got embroiled in controversies on the first day of the Boxing Day Test. He intentionally hit 19-year-old opener Sam Costans, who was making his debut for Australia, during the match. When Virat Kohli appeared before the match referee after the first day's play was over, he accepted his mistake but could not escape the fine as per ICC rules.

Virat Kohli has been fined 20 percent of his match fee and has also been given a demerit point. This punishment has been given to him for the on-field clash with Sam Costans on the first day of the fourth Test being played against Australia in Melbourne. There was a short but heated argument between Kohli and 19-year-old debutant Costans.

The incident happened after the 10th over bowled by Mohammad Siraj. Siraj also had a little argument with Sam, after which Kohli pushed Constas with his shoulder while changing sides in the middle of the over. According to ICC rules, "Any kind of inappropriate physical contact is prohibited in cricket. Players will violate this rule when they intentionally, negligently or unintentionally collide with or push another player or umpire with their shoulder."
