New Delhi: After the recently concluded assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, the BJP has made a big change at the state level and appointed Sat Sharma as the new state president. Sat Sharma has taken up this responsibility earlier as well. In fact, despite not getting a ticket in the 2024 assembly elections, he has got the fruits of his work to strengthen the organization.
In the assembly elections, the public gave its verdict in favor of the alliance of the National Conference and Congress, while BJP emerged as the second largest party. The then-state president of BJP, Ravindra Raina, could not even save his seat. On Sunday, the top leadership of the party removed Raina from the post of president and appointed Sat Sharma as the new president of Jammu and Kashmir. At the same time, Ravindra Raina has been made a member of the national executive of the party.
Sat Sharma had taken charge of the party in the state of Jammu and Kashmir from 2014 to 2018. He also contested the election from Jammu-West in 2014. He won the election and also became a minister in the BJP-PDP government, but the party did not give him a ticket in the year 2024. Despite this, he remained with the party as an honest and hardworking leader and constantly worked to strengthen the organization. This is the reason why the top leadership of the BJP has expressed confidence in him again.
Sat Sharma is a chartered accountant by profession. He was born in a Dogra Brahmin family in Jammu. He received his early education from Jammu itself. In the recent assembly elections held in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, BJP got 29 seats, while NC got 42, Congress got six and People's Democratic Party (PDP) got three seats. CPI(M), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and People's Conference (PC) got one seat each, while seven independent candidates won.
The first session of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly is going to start on Monday. The Speaker of the Assembly will be elected on the first day of this five-day session. Minister Javed Ahmed Dar will propose that Advocate Abdul Rahim Rather be elected Speaker of the Assembly. After the process of selection of the Speaker is completed, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will address the session. According to NC leaders, no questions and answers will be taken in this session for now.
