His maternal grandfather was also Padma Shri awardee Ustad Faiyaz Ahmed Khan. Music was in his blood.

Wajid Khan was very fond of playing the guitar.
In 1998, he composed music for a film for the first time, then composed music for a non-film album. He was very fond of playing the guitar. . They composed their first song for him and before leaving, Wajid composed the last song 'Bhai Bhai Bhai' for Salman Bhai. They gave music in many films like 'Garv', 'Tere Naam', 'Tumko Na Bhool Paayenge', 'Partner' and also in 'Dabangg', 'Dabangg 2' and 'Dabangg 3'. Apart from this, Wajid lent his voice to Salman in 'Mera Hi Jalwa', 'Fevicol Se', and Akshay Kumar's song 'Chinta Ta Chita Chita'.

Wajid had married the girl of his choice. It is said that the wall of religion came in the way later and both got separated. Both have two children from this marriage. Wajid died on 1 June 2020 due to cardiac arrest
. A month before this, Bhabhi Lubna had donated a kidney. Wajid was moving forward while battling the disease, but then he lost to death and this 'Dabangg' departed from the world.
