In the latest development surrounding the controversy involving podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia and the India’s Got Latent show, the teams from Mumbai and Assam Police visited his residence but found his home locked, according to a police official quoted by PTI. Attempts to reach Allahbadia were unsuccessful, as his phone was switched off during their investigation.
At least two FIRs have been filed against Allahbadia and fellow podcaster Samay Raina—one in Assam and another in Mumbai. On Thursday, February 13, police visited Allahbadia’s home in Mumbai but were unable to meet him. The officers then returned to the Khar police station after finding the house locked.
Ranveer Allahbadia Fails to Appear for Police Questioning
Despite being summoned to the Khar police station to record his statement, Ranveer Allahbadia did not show up. This came after the police had issued a second summon for his appearance. Authorities revealed that Allahbadia had requested to record his statement at his residence, but this request was denied by the police.
The controversy erupted following Allahbadia’s comments during the India’s Got Latent roast show, which led to significant backlash. In response to the growing outrage, Samay Raina removed all videos of the show from his YouTube channel.
Police Actions and Legal Developments
The Mumbai Police have already recorded statements from six individuals connected to the controversy, and Maharashtra's Cyber Cell has filed cases against 30 people related to the incident.
While Allahbadia was unreachable for questioning, his legal representative, Abhinav Chandrachud, approached the Supreme Court seeking relief from the charges. However, the Chief Justice, Sanjiv Khanna, denied an early hearing request, pointing out that a date for the hearing had already been scheduled. Additionally, Allahbadia’s advocate has filed for anticipatory bail to avoid potential arrest by the Guwahati Police.
Following the controversy, Allahbadia issued a public apology, taking responsibility for his remarks during the roast show.
