Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to immediately meet the country's demand for a caste census or he will see the next prime minister doing it. The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha said on social media platform 'X' that no power can stop a nationwide caste census, tagging a Congress post on the "Mood of Nation" survey conducted by a media group, which said 74 percent of people supported the caste census in August, up from 59 percent in February this year. "Modi ji, if you are thinking of stopping the caste census, you are dreaming - no power can stop it now! The order of India has come - soon 90 percent of Indians will support and demand a caste census," Gandhi said on 'X'.

The Congress leader said, "Implement the order now, otherwise you will see the next Prime Minister doing this." His remarks came a day after he stressed the demand for a nationwide "caste census". He said that 90 percent of the people of the country are sitting outside the system and this step should be taken in their interest. He also said that for the Congress, "caste census" is the basis of policy making. Addressing the 'Samvidhan Samman Sammelan' in Prayagraj, Gandhi had said, "90 percent of the people are sitting outside the system. They have skills and knowledge, but they have no connection with this system. This is the reason why we have raised the demand for a caste census."

Rahul Gandhi said- caste census is the basis of policy-making
He said that before ensuring the participation of different sections of the society, their numbers need to be ascertained. The Leader of Opposition had said, "For the Congress, caste census is the basis of policy making. It is a tool for policy making. We cannot make policies about the reality of India without caste census." He said, "Just as our Constitution is the guide and it is being attacked every day, similarly caste census is a socio-economic survey, there is an institutional survey and our second one will be the guide." Gandhi said, "We want figures. How many Dalits, OBCs, Adivasis, women, minorities, and general castes are there.?We are trying to protect the Constitution through this demand for caste census."
