New Delhi. The crime branch will now investigate the FIR against Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi. BJP MPs had filed an FIR against the Congress leader for the scuffle that took place in the Parliament premises on Thursday. An official said that on Friday, Delhi Police handed over the case against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to its crime branch in the case of scuffle at the Parliament gate.

A day earlier, the city police had filed an FIR against Gandhi accusing him of "physical assault and provocation" during the scuffle in the Parliament premises. The officer said, "Now the crime branch will investigate this matter."

A case was registered at the Parliament Street police station on Thursday under sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 117 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others), 131 (use of criminal force), 351 (criminal intimidation) and 3 (5) (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.

The case was registered against Gandhi just hours after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) filed a complaint. The complaint accuses him of 'assaulting and provoking' during the scuffle. Two BJP MPs, Pratap Chandra Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput, were injured in the scuffle. According to police sources, officers may call Rahul Gandhi for questioning and may also record statements of other MPs who witnessed the incident.

The source said a team of police officials may also meet Sarangi and Rajput in the hospital and record their statements for further investigation. He said their medical reports will be collected. BJP MP Hemang Joshi along with party colleagues Anurag Thakur and Bansuri Swaraj went to Sansad Marg police station on Thursday and lodged a complaint.
