Jaipur: Rajasthan Royals (RR) head coach Rahul Dravid picked up a leg injury while playing a local cricket match for Vijaya Cricket Club (Malur) in Bengaluru during the Nassur Memorial Shield tournament in February. Despite the setback, the franchise confirmed that Dravid has been recovering well and has now joined their pre-IPL 2025 camp in Jaipur.

“Head Coach Rahul Dravid, who picked up an injury while playing cricket in Bangalore, is recovering well and will join us today in Jaipur," Rajasthan Royals announced in a social media post, where Dravid was seen with heavy strapping on his left leg.

Dravid Plays Local Match With Son Anvay

Fans were pleasantly surprised when Dravid turned up to play for Vijaya Cricket Club alongside his son, Anvay Dravid. The legendary batter, coming in at No. 6, scored 10 off 8 balls, while Anvay stole the show with a brilliant 58 off 60 balls, hitting eight boundaries. Their team put up a strong total of 345/7 against Young Lions Club.

However, it remains unclear if Dravid sustained his injury during this match.

Dravid’s elder son, Samit Dravid, is also making a name for himself as a pace-bowling all-rounder, while Anvay plays as a wicketkeeper-batter.

Father-Son Cricketing Duos in History

Dravid and Anvay playing together is a rare sight in modern cricket, but there have been historic instances of father-son duos sharing the field, including:

  • WG Grace and Grace Jr.
  • Lala and Surinder Amarnath
  • Dennis and Adam Lillee
  • Denis and Heath Streak
  • Shivnarine and Tagenarine Chanderpaul
  • Ian and Liam Botham

This moment was a special one for the Dravid family, and for cricket fans who cherish such generational connections.

Dravid’s New Role at Rajasthan Royals

Dravid returned to coaching in the IPL after stepping down as India’s head coach following their 2024 ICC T20 World Cup triumph. A former captain and mentor of the Royals, he now aims to guide RR to their second IPL title in 2025.
