New Delhi. Before the start of the Australia tour, it was being seen as the last series for many senior players. Veteran spinner R Ashwin announced his retirement from international cricket after the third match of the 5-match series. This veteran did not get a chance to play in the historic match of Gabba, but after the match was drawn, he came with captain Rohit Sharma and announced his retirement. The disappointing thing for Indian fans was that they could not see their champion player being given a guard of honor.

Another Indian legend has announced his retirement from a popular series like the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Earlier, former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni had announced his retirement from Test cricket during a similar series decades ago. In the Brisbane Test, the Indian team made a strong comeback after falling behind and created conditions to win the match. However, the match ended in a draw. On the last day of the match, Indian legend Ashwin came in front of the media along with captain Rohit Sharma and shared the information about his retirement from international cricket.

Ashwin retires without playing the last match
Indian veteran R Ashwin announced his retirement without playing a farewell match against Australia. The second match of the 5-match Test series was played in Adelaide, in which R Ashwin was a part of the playing eleven. This pink ball test proved to be the last match of his international career. Ashwin scored 22 runs in the first innings of this match and 7 runs in the second while taking 1 wicket in the first innings.

Could not break Kumble's record
R Ashwin holds the record of taking the fastest 50 to 500 wickets in Test cricket. He set a new record by taking 50, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300, 350, 400, 450 and 500 Test wickets for India at the fastest pace. Ashwin has 537 wickets in Tests and he will be second in the list of bowlers taking the most wickets for India. Legendary Anil Kumble remains at the top with 619 wickets.
