Paris: India's star athlete Neeraj Chopra's dream of winning a second consecutive gold medal in the Olympic Games was shattered. Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem won the gold medal with a new Olympic record. Nadeem won the gold medal by throwing the javelin 92.97 meters away. Neeraj Chopra finished second by achieving a distance of 89.45 meters and won the silver medal. Both Neeraj and Nadeem started the final with a foul. Both gave their best performance in their second attempt. The bronze medal went to Peter Anderson of Grenada. Anderson finished third by throwing the javelin 88.54 meters away.

Neeraj Chopra won silver

India's star Neeraj Chopra started the final with a foul. In his first attempt, Neeraj could not maintain his balance after throwing the throw and the referee declared the attempt a foul. In the second attempt, Neeraj Chopra achieved a distance of 89.45 meters and reached the second position. This was Neeraj's best performance of the season. Four out of Neeraj Chopra's first five attempts were fouls. He could not control his speed under pressure. Neeraj's sixth attempt was also a foul.

Nadeem gave Pakistan its first gold

Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem's first attempt was a foul but he staked his claim on the gold medal by throwing the javelin 92.97 meters in his second attempt. Nadeem broke the 16-year-old Olympic record by throwing the javelin at 92.97 meters. He improved the Olympic record by almost two and a half meters. In his third attempt, Nadeem threw the javelin 88.72 meters, in the fourth attempt 79.40 meters, and in the fifth attempt 84.87 meters. Nadeem achieved a distance of 91.79 meters in his last attempt and gave Pakistan the first individual gold medal in Olympic history.
