New Delhi. Mumbai Indians, one of the most successful teams in IPL, has changed the head coach of the team before the 2025 season. 5-time champion Mumbai has again appointed former Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene as its head coach. Jayawardene was associated with Mumbai Indians in this role from 2017-2022. The franchise won the Indian Premier League (IPL) title in 2017, 2019 and 2020-21.

Mahela Jayawardene will thus replace former South African wicketkeeper-batsman Mark Boucher, who was the head coach of Mumbai Indians for two years. Mumbai Indians qualified for the knockouts in the 2023 stage but their performance this year was very poor in which the team managed to win only four out of 14 matches.

'I am looking forward to it'
Jayawardene said, 'My journey in the Mumbai Indians family has always been about development. In 2017, the focus was on building a group of talented players to play the best cricket and we did very well. Now the opportunity to return in the same role and continue to contribute to the history of Mumbai Indians is an exciting challenge that I am looking forward to.'

Boucher was made head coach after Jayawardene.
After Mahela Jayawardene was made Mumbai Indians' Global Head of Cricket, Mark Boucher was appointed the head coach of the team. After Jayawardene became Mumbai Indians' Global Head of Cricket, Mumbai Indians appointed South African legend Mark Boucher as their head coach, who oversaw the expansion of the franchise's global teams in various leagues.
