Maha Kumbh 2025: Preparations for the Maha Kumbh are going on in full swing in Prayagraj. The Maha Kumbh, which is held every 12 years, is scheduled to be held from January 13 to February 26 in 2025. It is one of the largest religious fairs in the world, in which millions of devotees from India and abroad participate. Devotees take a holy bath at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati rivers in this fair. In today's article, we will know from Bhopal-based astrologer and Vastu consultant Pandit Hitendra Kumar Sharma why Kumbh is held only every 12 years?

Why does Maha Kumbh take place every 12 years?
According to legend, Maha Kumbh is related to Samudra Manthan (churning of the ocean). When a fierce battle took place between the gods and demons to obtain Amrit, the nectar of immortality, the gods obtained the Amrit Kalash. It is said that during this war, some drops of Amrit fell on four holy places on earth - Prayagraj, Haridwar, Ujjain and Nashik. Due to this divine event, the tradition of organizing Kumbh Mela at these places started.

In religious texts, Prayagraj is also called 'Tirthraj' i.e. the king of pilgrimages. According to belief, the first yagya was performed here by Lord Brahma. This war between the gods and demons lasted for 12 days, which is equivalent to 12 years according to humans. This is the reason why Kumbh Mela is celebrated every 12 years.

Astrological significance of Maha Kumbh
Astrology also provides important information about the timing of Kumbh Mela. When Jupiter is in Taurus and Sun is in Capricorn, Kumbh Mela is held in Prayagraj. Similarly, when Jupiter is in Aquarius and Sun is in Aries, Kumbh Mela is held in Haridwar. When both Jupiter and Sun are in Leo, Maha Kumbh is held in Nasik. Kumbh Mela is held in Ujjain when Jupiter is in Leo and Sun enters Aries.
