
In a shocking incident near north Kolkata, locals out for their morning walks and yoga sessions at the ghats of the Ganga on Tuesday apprehended two women attempting to dump a body stuffed inside a suitcase into the river.
Suspicious Behavior Leads to Shocking Discovery
The women attracted attention when they struggled to move the heavy suitcase after stepping out of a blue and white car near Kumartuli, a well-known hub for Durga idol-making and skilled sculptors.
As locals questioned them, the women refused to let anyone touch the suitcase, raising suspicion. Initially, they claimed it contained a dog's body, but a strong stench coming from the suitcase deepened doubts.
A man in a viral video is heard saying, "Gondho berochhe" (It has started to stink), indicating foul play.

- Falguni Ghosh (Daughter)
Police Intervention & Investigation
Locals called the police, who arrived and opened the suitcase—only to find the bloodstained body of a woman inside.
CCTV footage from Madhyamgram (near Kolkata) shows the duo carrying the suitcase in a cart to a taxi stand.
A train ticket was also recovered from their possession.
The mother-daughter duo took a cab straight to Kumartuli, intending to dispose of the body.
Both women have been arrested, and police have identified the deceased. The investigation is ongoing to determine the motive and circumstances of the murder.
