Kolkata Doctor Case: Amid the ongoing protests over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Hospital, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra denied allegations of a cover-up in the case, saying that the accusations of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and elected women representatives of being dumb dolls by the opposition BJP are absolutely wrong. Moitra said that the story which is going around that the state government and above all, the Chief Minister and all of us who are elected representatives are indulging in some kind of systematic cover-up is absolutely wrong. The Chief Minister was in Jhargram Medinipur at the time of the incident. When she was told about it, she immediately spoke to the girl's family. On returning to Kolkata, she went to meet them and within 12 hours the police arrested the main suspect based on CCTV evidence.

Mamata has always stood for women's issues- Moitra

Moitra said that Mamata Banerjee, the only woman Chief Minister of India, has always stood for women's issues and there is no cover-up in it. She criticized the political statement that TMC representatives are dumb dolls. Moitra said that there is no cover-up in it. Mamata Banerjee is the only woman Chief Minister of India and has always stood for women's issues. Putting a political slant on it in some way and saying that we are all dumb dolls is a kind of political statement that we have faced before and we are going to fight again.

BJP President Sukant Majumdar had made serious allegations

Moitra's reaction comes after Union Minister and West Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar's statement in which he said that not a single woman MP of TMC has spoken about the murder and rape of the doctor in Kolkata. He said that despite being alumni of the same medical college, two TMC MPs and three MLAs are silent which shows that something is wrong. He also alleged that the name of a particular TMC MP's nephew is coming up repeatedly in this case. Majumdar said that in the team of doctors, many such topics have come up in their WhatsApp group, and some screenshots of it have also reached us like drugs, racket, sex racket... The name of a TMC MP's nephew is coming up repeatedly. I don't know what the truth is, but something is wrong because, despite so many women MPs of TMC, not even one of them has said much even after such a big incident. Two TMC MPs and three MLAs are alumni of the same medical college, yet they have been silenced, which shows that something is wrong.

Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari (BJP) wrote a letter to the Home Secretary and Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation requesting the deployment of Central Armed Paramilitary Forces to prevent further destruction of evidence at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Adhikari said that I had written a letter to the Hon'ble Home Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, and Hon'ble Director, Central Bureau of Investigation regarding the vandalism at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital and requested them to deploy Central Armed Paramilitary Forces to prevent further destruction of evidence at RG Kar.
