There was a political uproar over the selection of the site for the funeral of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and the memorial in his name. Congress MP Rahul Gandhi accused the central government of 'insulting' the memory of the former Prime Minister. At the same time, BJP President JP Nadda retorted and said that Rahul Gandhi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge are not refraining from doing politics even on the tragic demise of the former Prime Minister.

Dr. Manmohan Singh, who was the Prime Minister of India from 2004 to 2014, died on 26 December at the age of 92. He breathed his last on Thursday at AIIMS, Delhi. On Saturday, he was cremated with full state honors at Nigambodh Ghat. Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi called the choice of cremation site an 'insult' to Dr. Singh.

Nadda's reply to Rahul's allegations
BJP's national president JP Nadda himself has responded to Rahul Gandhi's allegations. Reacting strongly to the allegations of the Congress, he said, 'It is very unfortunate that former Congress president Rahul Gandhi and current president Mallikarjun Kharge are not refraining from doing politics even on the tragic demise of the former Prime Minister.'

Nadda said that the central government had allotted a place for the memorial of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and had also informed his family about it. He said, 'Congress's petty thinking cannot be condemned enough. Congress, which never gave real respect to Manmohan Singh while he was alive, is now doing politics in the name of his respect.'

JP Nadda said that the central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had allotted a place for Manmohan's memorial and had also informed his family about it. He alleged, 'Despite this, Congress is spreading lies.' Nadda said, 'Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge and other Congress leaders should avoid doing such cheap politics.'

What allegations did Rahul make?
Earlier, the Congress has accused the central government of not providing a proper place for the last rites of the country's first Sikh Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, where his memorial could have been built later. Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said that the BJP-led central government has completely insulted the 'great son of Mother India and the first Prime Minister of the Sikh community' by getting Manmohan Singh's last rites done at Nigambodh Ghat.

He wrote, 'He was the Prime Minister of India for a decade, during his tenure the country became an economic superpower and his policies are still the support of the poor and backward classes of the country. Till date, respecting the dignity of all former Prime Ministers, their last rites were performed at authorized Samadhi Sthals so that every person can pay tribute by paying last respect without any inconvenience. Dr. Manmohan Singh deserves our highest respect and Samadhi Sthal. The government should have shown respect to this great son of the country and his glorious community.'
