Shikhar Dhawan, one of the successful left-handed opening batsmen of the Indian cricket team and a part of the 2013 Champions Trophy winning team, announced his retirement from all formats of cricket on the morning of 24 August. While posting the video, Shikhar Dhawan wrote in the caption that I am ending this chapter of my cricket journey now. I am taking countless memories with me. Thank you all for your love and support! Jai Hind! Let us tell you that Dhawan is counted among the successful opening batsmen of world cricket. He last played for the Indian team in the ODI series played on the tour of Bangladesh in the year 2022.

In a video posted while announcing his retirement from international and domestic cricket, Shikhar Dhawan said that today I have stood at a turning point from where looking back, I see only memories and looking forward, I see a whole world. I always had only one goal, to play for India and that happened too, for which I am thankful to many people. First of all my family, my childhood coach Tarak Sinha ji and Madan Sharma ji under whose guidance I learned cricket. Then my team with whom I played for years where I found my family and got the support and love of you people. It is said that it is necessary to turn the pages to move forward in the story, so I am going to do the same. I announce my retirement from both international and domestic cricket. When I am saying goodbye to my cricket journey, I am relieved that I played a lot for my country. On this occasion, I want to thank BCCI and DDCA who gave me a chance, and all my fans who gave me so much love.

Left-handed opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan got a chance to debut in international cricket for the Indian cricket team in the year 2010 when he got a chance to play in the ODI series against Australia in the month of October. After this, Shikhar Dhawan did not look back and he got a chance to play in 34 Tests, 167 ODIs, and 68 T20 matches for Team India. While Dhawan scored 2315 runs at an average of 40.61 in Test cricket, he also played 7 centuries and 5 half-century innings. Apart from this, Dhawan scored 6793 runs in ODIs at an average of 44.11, which includes 17 centuries and 39 half-century innings. Dhawan has scored 1759 runs in T20 Internationals at an average of 27.92 with 11 half-century innings.

With his retirement from domestic cricket, Dhawan will no longer be seen playing in the IPL. He is counted among the legendary players of the IPL, in which Dhawan has scored 6768 runs in 222 matches at an average of 35.07, in which he has 2 centuries and 51 half-centuries to his name.
