New Delhi. The third match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia was drawn due to rain. The Indian team, which returned after losing the Pink Ball Test match, won the toss and decided to bowl first and the Kangaroos took full advantage of it. Left-handed batsman Travis Head, Steve Smith's century and wicketkeeper Alex Carey's half-century helped the team score 445 runs. In response, Team India had a bad start and at one point the team lost its 4 batsmen for 51 runs. For India, KL Rahul, Jadeja scored half-centuries and on the basis of an excellent last wicket partnership between Bumrah and Akash Deep, the team was saved from follow-on and the score reached 260.
After avoiding the follow-on, Australia came to bat on the last day of the match and scored 89 runs at the loss of 7 wickets and gave India a target of 275 runs in 54 overs. Chasing the target, India played only 2.1 overs and scored 8 runs and then it rained again and finally the umpire declared the match a draw. After the match was over, when both the captains were asked about the match being drawn, Australia's captain Pat Cummins expressed regret and said that this was a good opportunity for his team to take a 2-1 lead. He is disappointed at not being able to do so.
What Pat Cummins said after the match
After the match, the Australia captain said, 'It would have been better to be 2-1, it rained a lot, we can't do anything about it. We put up a big score and throughout the game it felt like we were ahead. Poor Josh (Hazlewood), Starc and I were able to move forward. There can be ups and downs here on the fifth day, not much cricket was played on it, when the ball was new and hard it felt challenging. Smith and Head's innings were excellent, so was Alex Carey's. Lyon seemed to be in rhythm, Starc took wickets. Ticked almost every box.' Now the fourth match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy i.e. the Boxing Day Test match will start from December 26. In such a situation, it has to be seen whether Team India will be able to take a 2-1 lead in this series or the Australian team will once again be seen in its old form?
