Rules of Hartalika Teej fast (Hartalika Teej Vrat Niyam)

• Water is not consumed during the Hartalika Teej fast. In this fast, no one consumes anything from sunrise to sunrise the next day, neither water nor food.
• If Hartalika Teej fast is started once, it cannot be abandoned. Then this fast has to be observed every year with proper rituals.
• In this fast, bhajan-kirtan should be done at night.
• This fast is observed by unmarried girls and married women.

In this fast, married women should do sixteen adornments. On this day, idols of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati are made from clay and worshipped. For worship, prepare Panchamrit with milk, sugar, honey, curd, and ghee in a vessel. Then keep all the things of Suhaag in a box and offer it to Goddess Parvati. After this, offer new clothes to Lord Shiva. Then listen to the story of Teej. Stay awake the whole night. After this, break your fast the next day.
