The 2025 ICC Champions Trophy is set to take place in February 2025 and the BCCI has already as of 18 January 2023 revealed the 15-Member squad. From 19 February to 9 March this competition will be held and India will be lead by Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill will serve as the vice-captain. A report by Dainik Jagran claimed that Gautam Gambhir, the head coach of India, wanted Pandya to serve as the vice-captain for the tournament as well while the skipper Rohit and Ajit were on board with Gill being the vice-captain instead.

Shubman on the other was the vice-captain during the ODI series which took place in Sri Lanka in August 2024 and continued to be in this position even after

Reports also indicate that Gambhir hoped to see Sanju Samson included in India's Champions Trophy squad and earmarked him as wicketkeeper-batter, however, Rohit and Agarkar opted for Rishabh Pant.

Samson was the first batter in the world to hit three T20I centuries in a calendar year, which he achieved in the year 2024. He last represented India in a 50 over contest against the South African squad in Paarl on December 21st, 2023 wherein he scored 108 runs batting at the No. 3 position.
