New Delhi: Great Britain's legendary double trap shooter Peter Wilson has shown interest in coaching the Indian team and aims to train the shooters for the 2028 Los Angeles Games. Wilson, who became the youngest double trap gold medalist at the London Olympics 2012, recently coached Great Britain's Nathan Hales at the Paris Olympics to end his country's 12-year medal drought in the event by finishing on top.

Wilson holds the world record in double trap

The 37-year-old shooter holds the world record in double trap. He wanted to become a cricketer but took up shooting after a snow-boarding accident. Wilson told PTI from England, "I have sent my resume to the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) and I am waiting for their reply now. I want to work with the senior team and prepare them for the Los Angeles Olympic Games and the junior team for the next eight to 12 years." He said that his only goal is success and he will not face any problems working in India.

India has not had a foreign coach for a long time

The veteran shooter said, 'Events like the Asian Games, World Cup, and World Championships are a step towards the goal of winning Olympic medals and he will try to give better results in these events. Wilson has been awarded 'Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE)'. India has not had a foreign trap coach for a long time and most of the shooters who participated in the Paris Olympics took the help of their personal coaches. Marcello Dradi of Italy was the last trap coach appointed by the Sports Authority of India and NRAI.

The coach will be selected before 14 September

NRAI Secretary General Sultan Singh said, "They must have mailed their biodata to the official e-mail ID. We have not decided on the last date yet. But yes, it has to be done as soon as possible." When asked if the coach will be selected before the NRAI president's election on September 14, Singh said, "Normally it should be done after the president takes charge but if needed before that, we will have to form a selection committee. It depends on the requirement of the team."
