You will remember, it was a few months ago. Mohammad Muizzu came to power in Maldives by raising the slogan of 'India Out'. As soon as he took oath, he ordered the Indian soldiers stationed in Maldives to leave the country immediately. The very next moment, those who considered India as an enemy went to China for refuge. India kept explaining, but they did not listen. They thought that they would solve everything with the help of China. Then what happened is that the same Muizzu is visiting India again and again. Now he does not even like to talk about China. He has come to New Delhi once again on a five-day tour. Were the hopes from China shattered or was Jaishankar's diplomacy successful?

Before leaving Maldives, Muizzu said, Maldives was facing an economic crisis. I am sure that India will help us. According to a BBC report, Maldives' foreign exchange reserves are around 400 million dollars. This can only cover expenses for one and a half months. Let us tell you that Maldives used to earn a lot from Indian tourists, but ever since their ministers have made anti-India statements, this income has been reduced to a great extent. Maldives is also under heavy debt.

First, he looked towards Turkey and China, but…
Before coming to India, Muizzu thought it was better to visit China and Turkey. He went to Turkey in January. Then he visited China. He did not come to India. This was seen as displeasure with India in diplomatic circles. Because before this, whoever holds power in Maldives, first comes to India. The bitterness between the two countries increased further when at the beginning of this year, Maldives' Deputy Youth Minister Malsha Sharif and Mariam Shiuna made objectionable comments against PM Modi on social media. After this, the diplomatic dispute increased. Muizzu got trapped in the Maldives itself. When the protest increased, he had to suspend both his ministers. Muizzu had called the ministers' statement shameful. After this, a period of improvement started in the relations between the two countries.

How Muizzu's tone changed
- As soon as the government was formed, he said that India would have to immediately call back its soldiers. They will have to be replaced by civilians. Then he ran towards China-Turkey. He even allowed the Chinese research ship Jiang Yang Hong-3 to come to his port, which angered India a lot.
- But when no help was seen from China, he started saying that Maldives has a special relationship with India. These are bilateral relations and it has nothing to do with any other country.
- After suspending the ministers who commented on PM Modi, he said, no one should say such a thing. I will not insult anyone like this, be it a leader or a common man.
- Then he said, thank you to India for making Maldives' debt payment easy. We want strong relations with India on many issues including a free trade agreement.
- Now he is saying that we have a lot of expectations from India. We want India's help to deal with the economic crisis and hope that India will help us in this.
- Now a special page has been created on Muizzu's visit to New Delhi on the official website of Maldives. Information about his visit has been given in it.

Why is India important for the Maldives?
Diplomatic experts believe that Muizzu has understood how much Maldives is dependent on India. China, Turkey, or any other country cannot fulfill this dependence. It needs India for food, infrastructure development, and treatment. China repeatedly promises to help, but has not given a single penny to date. Foreign Minister S Jaishankar understands this very well and has also explained it to Muizzu. A few days ago, when Jaishankar went to the Maldives, he had said that Maldives is one of the cornerstones of our 'Neighborhood First Policy'. Maldives is at the forefront of these.
