Pathum Nissanka creates history: Pathum Nissanka showed why his teammates rate him highly when he hit a match-winning century in the fourth innings of the Test match between Sri Lanka and England at the Oval in London on Monday, September 9. Nissanka, 26, became the first Sri Lankan opener to score a century in England since Tillakaratne Dilshan in 2011. He also became the first Sri Lankan to score a century in a win in England in the second innings. Nissanka's heroics helped England end a 10-year wait for a Test win in England.

Nissanka joined the list of visiting batsmen including Don Bradman, Gordon Greenidge, and Graeme Smith by scoring a century in the fourth innings of a Test win in England. The aggressive century also helped Sri Lanka set a new Asian record for the highest successful chase in Tests in England.

Nissanka's innings was a masterclass in control and determination. He resumed play on the fourth day with Sri Lanka at 94-1 and with his brilliant hand, he led the team to the target of 219 runs. "It was a great opportunity to play in England and I enjoyed that innings. It was a bit tough in the morning but yesterday (Sunday) my mindset was positive and I played with that. I just wanted to play my normal game and that's what I did," said Nissanka, who won the Player of the Match award at the Oval.
