New Delhi. The condition of air pollution worsened further in the national capital Delhi on Saturday. The AQI level went up and reached the severe category in many areas of the metropolis. Under the third phase of GRAP, many measures have been taken to deal with pollution. The Delhi administration imposed a fine of Rs 5.85 crore on the first day for violating the rules set under GRAP-3. Let us tell you that strict provisions have been made to deal with air pollution. The AQI of the last 24 hours at 4 pm in Delhi was 417, with which this city remained the most polluted in the country.
According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), severe category air poses a threat to even healthy individuals and has a very bad effect on those who are already sick. Data shared by the CPCB showed that out of 39 monitoring stations in Delhi, all except Sri Aurobindo Marg had AQI in the severe category, which recorded AQI above 400. After Delhi, Jind in Haryana recorded the second worst air quality with 394 AQI, while Bahadurgarh stood third with 388 AQI.
Restrictions were imposed on Friday under Action GRAP-3 on those violating the rules
. The administration has intensified action against those violating the rules. Teams of traffic police, transport department, and others are imposing fines for violating the rules. On Friday, Delhi Traffic Police issued about 550 challans for violating the ban on BS 3 petrol and BS 4 diesel vehicles, imposing a fine of more than Rs 1 crore on the first day of restrictions under GRAP-3. Apart from this, BS 3 petrol, and BS 4 diesel four-wheelers have also been banned and there is a provision of a fine of Rs 20,000 for violation. The police also took action against vehicles not having PUCC and imposed a total fine of Rs 4.85 crore on 4,855 vehicles on Friday.
Minister Gopal Rai's allegation
While inspecting buses at the Kashmiri Gate interstate bus terminal on Saturday, Delhi's Environment Minister Gopal Rai alleged that BJP-ruled neighboring states are increasing air pollution in the capital by sending BS-4 diesel buses despite the ban. Pointing to states like Haryana, Uttar Pradesh , and Rajasthan, Rai said, "BJP governments are deliberately sending diesel buses to Delhi, which is banned under the existing guidelines, to make air pollution worse." As part of efforts to tackle pollution, Gopal Rai announced that a total of 84 enforcement teams of the transport department and 280 teams of traffic police have been deployed to ensure strict compliance with the ban.
