It has been raining intermittently in Delhi and its surrounding areas for the last two days. Due to this, the chill has increased in the National Capital Region. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a sharp drop in the minimum temperature in many areas of the country. This means that the beginning of the new year 2025 is expected to be cold in entire North India including Delhi.
According to the weather department forecast, the minimum temperature is expected to fall by 3-5 degrees in North-West India during the next two days. On the other hand, no major change is expected in the minimum temperature in West and Central India during the next 24 hours and there is a possibility of a drop of 3-5 degrees in the next three days. Whereas in East India, there will be no change during the next two days and thereafter there will be a drop of 2-4 degrees.
Fear of rain again from 1 to 6 January
According to the IMD, two new western disturbances are likely to affect the western Himalayan region from 1 to 6 January, which will cause light rain/snowfall in the western Himalayan region. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department had earlier issued a yellow alert for the national capital, predicting more rain on the weekend i.e. Saturday-Sunday. At the same time, the department has now predicted dense fog for the next three days.
Meanwhile, officials said that due to the active western disturbance and its interaction with the eastern winds, rain and thundershowers are occurring in the Delhi-NCR region. Due to this, the temperature has also dropped to 9.5 degrees Celsius, which is the lowest maximum temperature in the last five years.
There will be strong cold winds
and on 30 and 31 December, cold wave conditions are likely to persist in different areas of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan and Muzaffarabad.
The IMD has also predicted dense fog conditions over Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Jharkhand, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura from December 28 to 31.
