New Delhi. Ivan Rodrigues, father of Indian women cricketer Jemima Rodrigues, has broken his silence on the allegations of conversion against him. Ivan is accused of using membership in the Khar Gymkhana Club to organize conversion meetings. It has been said about the Indian cricketer's father that he was misusing the membership of this club for the last several years and was getting conversions done. However, Ivan has called the allegations against him baseless. Ivan claimed that he only organized prayer meetings by fully following the procedures.
Khar Gymkhana canceled the membership of Jemimah Rodrigues during its Annual General Meeting (AGM). Several members had complained that Ivan had allegedly misused the privileges given to the star cricketer. In response to the allegations, Ivan Rodrigues said that he followed strict procedures while availing the facilities, and no 'conversion meeting' was held in the gymkhana. Ivan said, "We availed the facilities of Khar Gymkhana for prayer meetings on several occasions during the year from April 2023. However, this was done as per the procedures of Khar Gymkhana and with the full knowledge of the office bearers.
'The prayer meetings were open to all'
He said in a social media post, 'The prayer meetings were open to all and were in no way 'conversion meetings' as depicted in the media. When we were asked to stop holding the prayer meeting, we respected the decision of the gymkhana and stopped it with immediate effect.'
Jemima has played 31 ODIs
Twenty-four-year-old Jemima is one of the star players of the Indian women's team. After making her debut for India in 2018, she has played three Tests, 31 ODIs, and 104 ODIs for the country. Shiv Malhotra, a member of the management committee of Khar Gymkhana, said that he respects Jemima and that this incident involving her father should not have happened.
'We gave the Gymkhana facilities to Jemima and not to her father'
Malhotra said, 'This should not have happened. But this is the way the world works. We are very proud of her as an Indian cricketer and I wish her all the best for the future. May she touch greater heights for the country? The Gymkhana facilities were given to her for cricketing purposes and not for her father's use.'
