Sharad Pawar on Farmers Suicide Issue: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) President Sharad Pawar on Sunday took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's assurance to double the income of farmers, claiming that cases of farmers committing suicide have doubled during the BJP rule. Addressing a rally in Barshi town of Solapur district of Maharashtra, Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) leader Pawar claimed that farmers are not getting adequate prices for their produce and they are in debt.

'Income hasn't doubled, suicides have doubled'

He alleged, 'The Prime Minister had promised to double the income of farmers, but instead the cases of farmers committing suicide have doubled.' The NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) chief said that the need of the hour is to change the government in the state and install a government that protects the interests of farmers, youth, and women.

'Youth are worried due to lack of employment'

The former Union Agriculture Minister said, 'The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) governments at the Centre and the state have not used their power to reduce the problems of farmers and create employment opportunities for the youth. You will see that the youth are upset due to lack of employment. We have to change the government.'

Pawar said that despite its slogan '400 Paar', BJP could not win even 300 seats in the Lok Sabha elections. Accusing the BJP, he said, 'It can form the government with the help of parties from Andhra Pradesh and Bihar. The need of the hour is to reduce the debt burden on farmers, so the debt should be waived off.'
