Story of Bhai Dooj

According to religious legend, the origin of Bhaiya Dooj is associated with Surya's son Yamraj and his beloved sister Yamuna. On Kartik Shukla Dwitiya Tithi, Yamuna Devi arranged for food and insisted her brother Yamraj to come. On the constant insistence of his sister, the god of death Yamraj reached his sister Yamuna's house and decorated him with various utensils, and welcomed him with various types of food items.

Yamraj, very pleased with the hospitality of his sister, requested her to ask for a boon as a gift.
