Paris: 27-year-old Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan created history in the Paris Olympics. Arshad Nadeem won the gold medal in the men's javelin throw event by breaking the 16-year-old Olympic record. Arshad won the gold medal by throwing the javelin 92.97 meters away. This was his second attempt. Arshad threw the javelin 91.79 meters away in his last attempt. He defeated Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Neeraj Chopra of India in the event. Neeraj Chopra won the silver medal with 89.45 meters. Five of his six attempts were fouls.
First Pakistani athlete to win a gold medal
Arshad Nadeem has become the first Pakistani athlete to win an individual gold medal in the history of the Olympic Games. This is Pakistan's first medal in 32 years in the Olympic Games.
