Chandrapal Dayal had stopped stepping out of his house in the afternoon for almost a year because he had to face taunts from school children after Rinku Singh hit five consecutive sixes against his son Yash Dayal in the Indian Premier League. When the school bus passed by his house near the Karbala Mosque in Prayagraj in the afternoon, the children would chant 'Rinku Singh... Rinku Singh .... Five sixes..... Five sixes'.

The children's behavior brought back memories of that disappointing evening in Ahmedabad for Chandrapal. While Rinku Singh emerged as a national hero after that one-over, Yash Dayal had to face challenging times. Chandrapal, a retired officer of the Accountant General's Office in Allahabad, choked up when he recalled the incident of 2023. He said, "For us, it was an accident."

He said, "Whenever the school bus passed by here, the children used to shout, 'Rinku Singh, Rinku Singh, five sixes'. It was very painful - why did this happen to my son?'' However, sports always give a chance to bounce back and Yash Dayal's family is filled with pride after he was included in the team for the two-match home Test series against Bangladesh.

Yash left behind the disappointments in social media and normal life and made a place in the national team. It is a mark of his ability that he has been given preference over regular limited-overs fast bowlers like Khalil Ahmed and Arshdeep Singh. Chandrapal said, "Yash started living in isolation due to disappointment and his mother Radha became so upset that she fell ill. She refused to eat food. Gujarat Titans also released him and he was facing the challenge of making a career again.

He said, "Yash also fell ill during this time but we never let him think of giving up. We, as a family, pledged and told Yash, 'As long as you (Yash) play for India, we will stand firm. You have to not give up and keep playing for India.'"

"I and my family will keep motivating her to make sure she never thinks of giving up. And today everything is in front of you," he said with a proud voice.

Chandrapal cited the example of Stuart Broad and said that the England bowler reached 600 Test wickets after conceding six sixes in an over.

He said, "We explained to Yash that this is not the first time this has happened, and it will not be the last time either. Yuvraj Singh hit six sixes on Stuart Broad and Broad emerged as one of the greatest gauge bowlers of all time."

Dayal's story is an example of passion and patience which proves that success sounds louder than failure. He said, "Nothing can be bigger than this for a father. Representing the country in Tests is the biggest dream for any cricketer. This is a big day for us, our family, and our friends. All the credit goes to Yash. No matter how much effort I might have put in, it was his efforts that brought him to where he is today."

Yash represented Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2024 and took 15 wickets in 14 matches. He played a key role in India B's 76-run win over India A in the Duleep Trophy match. He took the wickets of Mayank Agarwal, Riyan Parag, and Dhruv Jurel in the second innings and displayed excellent bowling under pressure.

However, it will not be easy for Yash to make a place in the Indian XI because the team usually plays with two fast bowlers on home grounds. If Mohammad Siraj fails to recover from injury, Yash may get a chance.
