New Delhi. In the first test match being played between Zimbabwe and Afghanistan (Zimbabwe vs Afghanistan), Rahmat Shah and Hasmatullah Shahidi did not let a single wicket fall against Zimbabwe on the third day on Saturday (28 December), due to which Afghanistan was able to score 425 runs for two wickets. Rahmat and Hasmatullah batted brilliantly. On the second day, they had lost 2 wickets.
Rahmat is playing on 231 runs which is the highest score by any batsman from Afghanistan in Test cricket. Shahidi, who held this record earlier, is playing on 141 runs and is moving towards his second double century. If both of them continue to bat like this on the fourth day as well, then problems may arise for Zimbabwe here.
These two have so far added 361 runs for the third wicket, which is the biggest partnership for any wicket from Afghanistan. Rahmat is only the second batsman from Afghanistan to complete a double century. He has faced 416 balls so far and has hit 23 fours and three sixes. Shahidi's 276-ball innings includes 16 fours.
Afghanistan's team is still 161 runs behind Zimbabwe, which had scored 586 runs in its first innings. This is the 26th occasion in Test cricket when not a single wicket fell in a match for the whole day. The last time this happened was in 2019 in the match played between England and West Indies. This has happened for the first time in Zimbabwe. Talking about other batsmen of Afghanistan, Sediqullah Atal scored 3 and Abdul Malik scored 23 runs.
