There is a saying- 'Jaan hai to Jahan hai'. A good lifestyle is a sign of good health. A healthy body and mind is the real wealth. To keep their health in good shape, people exercise daily and take a good diet but when it comes to mental health, they ignore it. Whereas mental health improves physical health. Today is World Mental Health Day . People of all ages suffer from stress which spoils their mental health. When mental health deteriorates, other parts of the body are affected and the result can be very terrible.
Everyone's stress is the same. Dr. Rajiv Mehta, author of Rewire, Rework, Reclaim: How to Manage Stress and a psychiatrist at Sir Gangaram Hospital, Delhi, says that children, young and old have the same kind of stress but the stressor is different. Stressor is the cause and stress is the result. It is like diabetes or blood pressure is the same disease but its causes are different. In children, the cause of stress can be studied, while in adults, the cause of stress can be bad relationships, financial problems, or jobs. That is, the stressors are different.
There are 3 types of stressors. According to
the American Psychological Association, there are three main causes of stressors- work stressors, financial stressors, and emotional stressors. Work stressors include long working hours, work pressure, and a grumpy boss. Financial stressors include credit card bills, excessive loans, house rent, and lack of money to meet monthly expenses. Emotional stressors can be caused by cheating, lack of love from parents, fights with partners, divorce, lack of family support, etc.

According to the American Psychological Association, 73% of Americans have poor mental health due to stress due to which they show symptoms like headaches, fatigue, and muscle tension. Stress is a silent killer.
Effect on body parts
Our body is controlled by the mind. When a person is stressed, stress hormones called cortisol, adrenaline, or epinephrine are released in the body. These hormones increase the heart rate, constrict the blood vessels, and increase the blood sugar. These psychological changes give the body energy to deal with the situation which is called a fight or flight response. When these hormones are continuously produced in the body, chronic stress occurs which after 6 months to 1 year manifests in the form of diseases like heart disease, diabetes, obesity, insomnia, mood swings, anxiety, etc. Stress reduces the immunity.
Recognize stress
Dr. Rajeev Mehta says that it is common for stress to cause depression and anxiety. When this happens, the person's mind will be sad, he will start feeling upset and irritable. He will not be interested in any work and neither will he be able to focus. Such a person will become calm or will start getting angry. He will get less sleep, less appetite, sexual desires will decrease, he will start forgetting things, his confidence will decrease, he will feel guilty, and depressing thoughts will come. If such people are not treated by a psychiatrist in time, then such people commit suicide because they feel that there is nothing left in life. According to the World Health Organization, every year 720000 people commit suicide due to poor mental health.
Higher level of stress in women: A survey conducted by
Britain's Health and Safety Executive website revealed that the stress level of women is 50% higher than that of men. The reason for this stress is work pressure. Society judges women between the ages of 35 and 54 the most and the responsibility of being a good wife, a good mother, a good daughter-in-law, and a good homemaker is given to them. Because of this pressure, the study revealed that women suffer from more anxiety than men. At the same time, a study published in the Journal of Psychiatry and Neuroscience in the National Library of Medicine of America said that women suffer from more depression than men and the reason behind this is their hormones.
Take care of mental health.
Dr. Rajeev Mehta says that most people understand the cause of stress but do not get it treated. People think that if there is pressure on studies, it will get cured automatically, if there is work pressure, then everything will be fine by changing the job. But the disease caused by poor mental health does not get cured on its own, it is necessary to get timely treatment from a psychiatrist. To keep mental health healthy, it is necessary to do exercise, yoga, meditation, eat well and get enough sleep daily. Apart from this, stay away from the digital world, do not consume alcohol, meet family and friends, share your thoughts, talk openly about what is wrong, and even then if symptoms of loneliness, depression, or anxiety are seen, then get treatment.
