Men's Hair Health: Baldness in men is a problem that is always seen. Hair loss or gradual baldness with age is a big problem among men. But nowadays, this male pattern baldness is seen in men even at a very young age. Mumbai's famous aesthetic medicine fellow and skin specialist, trichologist and hair transplant surgeon, Dr. Yogesh Kalyanpad explains that male pattern baldness is also called androgenetic alopecia in the language of medical science. In this condition, men start losing hair gradually. This is the most common cause of hair loss. The main reason for hair loss in men is considered to be the effect of genetic trend and hormone (dihydrotestosterone (DHT)) together. Along with this, there are many other reasons which can cause baldness in men.
Why do men start becoming bald (Cause of Baldness In Men)
1. Genetic causes (heredity): The most common cause of baldness is heredity. This is known as “androgenetic alopecia”, which is mainly related to a history of baldness in men in the family. This condition occurs when the testosterone hormone affects the hair follicles, leading to hair loss.
2. Hormonal changes: Hormonal imbalance can cause many problems in your body and one of them is baldness. Hair loss can occur due to increased or decreased testosterone levels in men, or other hormonal changes. This type of baldness is common with aging.
3. Stress and mental pressure: The lifestyle we are living nowadays also affects hair growth. Excessive stress or mental pressure can cause hair loss. Stress can hinder the hair growth process, leading to abnormal hair loss. This condition is called "telogen effluvium", in which a large number of hair suddenly starts falling.
4. Diet and nutritional deficiencies: Deficiency of vitamins and minerals, such as iron, zinc, vitamin D and B12, can cause hair loss. Lack of these nutrients affects hair health and leads to premature hair loss.
5. Medical conditions and medicines: Some health conditions such as thyroid disorders, high blood pressure, depression, diabetes, and other chronic illnesses can also cause hair loss. Apart from this, the intake of certain medicines (such as chemotherapy, antidepressants) can also cause hair loss.
Do not seek prescriptions for baldness, seek treatment
Hair transplant surgeon, Dr. Yogesh Kalyanpad says that chemicals or prescriptions do not work in male pattern baldness. There are some medicines available for baldness in men, which block DHT. In this, the treatment is started only when the hair becomes thin, so that hair-thinning can be stopped. This hair thinning later turns into permanent baldness. If medicines do not help, then hair transplant can be used.
