Ranchi: Cracks are appearing in the INDIA alliance before the Jharkhand assembly elections. The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Communist Party of India (CPI) have expressed their dissatisfaction with the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and the Congress over the seats. The lack of consensus on seat sharing between the major constituents of the alliance is creating an atmosphere of instability in the alliance as well as in the politics of the state, which is raising questions about the future of the alliance. Both the parties have given JMM just 24 hours, otherwise they have decided on how many seats they are going to contest in the state.
RJD announces to contest alone
RJD has announced to contest alone on 20-21 seats in the Jharkhand assembly elections. RJD has given 24 hours to JMM and Congress, stating that if seats are not distributed according to their demands by Monday morning, then RJD will release the list of its candidates and enter the electoral fray. This announcement of RJD is a clear indication of the growing disunity in the alliance, which can weaken the electoral strategy of the Indian alliance.
CPI's displeasure and decision to contest on 15 seats
After RJD, CPI has also expressed its displeasure with JMM. CPI has also clearly said that if the issue of seats within the alliance is not resolved soon, then it is ready to field its candidates on 15 assembly seats. It has also given 24 hours to the alliance. With this announcement of CPI, it has become clear that the differences regarding seat sharing are not limited to RJD only, but there is dissatisfaction in other alliance parties as well.
Sign of alliance breaking up
The decision of RJD and CPI to contest elections separately shows that the Indian alliance in Jharkhand is on the verge of breaking up. In case there is no agreement on seat sharing, this alliance can weaken even before the elections. Both RJD and CPI have built a good support base in their respective areas, and if these parties contest elections alone, it can cause serious damage to the electoral prospects of the alliance.
Increasing pressure on JMM and Congress
This situation has put tremendous pressure on JMM and Congress. JMM, which is the ruling party in Jharkhand, is now facing the challenge of maintaining a balance between the big and small allies regarding the distribution of seats. At the same time, Congress is also a major party in this alliance and it also has a tough task to reach a consensus on the distribution of seats.
What will happen if there is no consensus?
If there is no consensus among the constituent parties of the INDIA alliance in the Jharkhand assembly elections, it can prove to be a big setback for the opposition unity. RJD and CPI contesting independently will not only affect the electoral mathematics of the alliance, but can also benefit a big party like BJP, which is already in a strong position.
In this way, before the upcoming assembly elections in Jharkhand, the growing dispute over seat sharing within the INDIA alliance has created a strange situation. If RJD and CPI do not get the desired seats in the next 24 hours, then these parties can break away from the alliance and contest the elections independently. This will not only weaken the alliance, but a major change can be seen in the election results of the state.
