Bangladesh Violence: Attacks on Hindu minorities continue amid violent student protests in Bangladesh. Extremists are continuously attacking Hindu homes and temples. They have also targeted personalities who strengthen the fabric of unity. Popular Bangladeshi folk singer Rahul Anando's residence in Dhaka was vandalized, looted, and set on fire. According to The Daily Star report, Rahul, who is also a cultural activist, somehow escaped with his wife and young son during the attack.

Rahul Anand ran away to save his life

The residence of Rahul Anando, lead singer of the popular folk song 'Joler Gaan', was frequented by people from the music industry for various events throughout the year. This 140-year-old house was one of the stops on French President Emmanuel Macron's Bangladesh itinerary when he visited Dhaka in September 2023. But today his house is unrecognizable. The mob set the house on fire and forced Rahul to flee with his family.

There were more than 3,000 musical instruments in the house

Saiful Ismal Jarnal, one of the founding members of 'Joler Gaan', told The Daily Star that the attack shook Rahul Anando and his family and they took refuge in a secret place. The journal said that the old house was rented and did not belong to the Anands. According to The Daily Star report, folk musician Anando had a huge collection of more than 3,000 musical instruments, which he had designed and built over many years.

The attackers broke the gate and entered inside

The Daily Star, citing a close family source, reported that the attackers broke into their house by breaking the main gate and then started vandalizing whatever they could get their hands on. Then, they set the entire house on fire, including Rahul Anando's musical instruments. Joler Gaan posted a song on their official Facebook page, which calls for "love, peace and unity". A long caption reads that it was the last song recorded in the house, which was a mix of many creative personalities and also served as the band's recording studio.
