Ghaziabad. The number of patients suffering from cancer, heart and stomach related diseases is increasing every year. Among these diseases, a disease is spreading rapidly in the country, which is getting less attention. This disease is directly related to women. Women who know the most about every need of the entire family know very little about this disease of theirs.

We are talking about PCOD or Polycystic Ovary Disease. This disease is spreading rapidly among Indian women. In the last decade, the number of women suffering from it has increased continuously. Women between 16 and 40 years of age are also its victims.

According to the National Library of Medicine, one in every five women in India suffers from this. This disease is causing infertility. According to a report published in 2021 by the science magazine Lancet, due to lack of treatment of PCOD, 15 to 20 percent of women suffering from it are getting endometrial cancer. Lack of awareness about this disease among women in India is also the reason for its spread.

Gynecologist Neelam Banerjee says that there is no specific reason for PCOD disease. Bad lifestyle, mental stress, wrong eating habits, smoking and alcohol consumption are major risk factors for this disease.

What happens is
that PCOD causes small cysts to form in the ovaries. These cysts make it difficult to conceive. This disease also causes insulin resistance in women. Because of this, their cells are unable to use insulin properly.

What is the identification?
The identification of this disease is high androgen level, absence of periods on time and cysts in the ovaries. If any of these symptoms are seen, a pelvic examination is done. Tests of cholesterol, insulin and triglyceride are also done. Ultrasound is also done, which examines the ovaries and uterus.

What is the treatment?
This disease is treated through medicines and surgery. Dr. Neelam advises that women should make some changes in their lifestyle. Decide on a food routine. Include green fruits and vegetables in your diet. Increase the amount of fiber in your diet. Maintain your weight and do yoga.
