Dehradun: Timur, grown in the hilly areas of Uttarakhand, is used in chutney because it not only tastes good but also has Ayurvedic benefits. Timur seeds cure colds, constipation, diarrhea, and skin diseases and also work as a mouth freshener. The leaves of the Timur plant work as an antiseptic. Therefore, it can be used even when someone gets hurt.

Timur is found in the mountains.
Siraj Siddiqui, an ayurvedic doctor from Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand, told Local 18 that Timur is found in the mountains and is used as a spice, but not many people know that it is very beneficial. Its scientific name is Zanthoxylum armatum. Apart from Uttarakhand, it is also brought to Nepal as a spice. It has been used for teeth since ancient times in the mountains. Teeth were cleaned by making toothpicks from its twigs. It prevents tooth cavities. It is still popular among villagers as a natural toothbrush.

Ayurvedic doctor Siraj Siddiqui also informed that Timur's fruits, branches, leaves, seeds, and bark, all are useful in medicinal form. Due to the potassium present in it, it also works to reduce high blood pressure in the body. Many people also call it Pahadi Neem. Its leaves have antiseptic properties. Along with this, Timur seeds also work as a mouth freshener along with treating colds, constipation, diarrhea, and skin diseases. It is also very helpful in improving digestion. Anti-tumor properties are also found in its leaves.

Positivity remains in the house
Some people believe that apart from medicinal properties, Timur has many religious beliefs attached to it. It is said that in Sanatan Dharma, when Yajnopaveet or Janeu Sanskar is performed, the stick of this tree is given to the hands of the Brahmin because it is considered to be full of the best qualities. It is also believed that by tying its wood to the door frame of the house or keeping it in the temple, negative powers can be avoided and positivity remains in the house.
