New Delhi. The line 'Risk Hai Toh Ishq Hai' from the web series 'Scam 1992- The Harshad Mehta' reminds us of the old belief that risk and return are interconnected. Keeping this in mind, today's young generation is investing a lot of money in the stock market. According to a report by the market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), 93 percent of investors investing in futures and options (F&O) trading are incurring losses while 71 percent of people are losing money in intraday trading. In such a situation, the question arises whether the formula of 'Risk Hai Toh Ishq Hai' is correct in the stock market.

According to a TOI report, last year a strange case came to Roshan Agarwal, a CA from Assam. Anand (name changed), 18 years old and a B.Tech student, lost Rs 20 lakh in online trading. He had borrowed money from his friends without telling his parents and also took loans from some suspicious apps. Anand told that one of his friends had claimed to earn Rs 1 crore in a year from trading. He started trading after being convinced by his friend and joined Telegram groups where he used to get insider tips on the stock market. Agarwal explained to him that he should first invest with less money, but after a year Anand came to him again but this time after making a loss of Rs 26 lakh. The line from the show 'Scam 1992' may sound good, but in real life, it is proving to be dangerous for many youths like Anand.

71 percent of intraday traders suffer losses
According to a recent study by SEBI, while 15 lakh people used to do intraday trading in the financial year 2018-19, this number has increased to 69 lakh in the financial year 2022-23. In this too, the number of youth below 30 years of age has increased from 18 percent to 48 percent. 71 percent of intraday traders have suffered losses in the financial year 2022-23. Apart from intraday trading, people are losing money in futures and options trading. In the last three years, 93 percent of retail traders have suffered losses in futures and options trading, in which each person has suffered an average loss of Rs 2 lakh.

F&O: Shortcut method of earning lakhs with less capital can make you bankrupt
Futures and Options (F&O) are a type of financial instrument through which investors can take big positions in stocks, commodities, and currencies with less capital. Since it is a high-reward, high risk trading tool, money is made quickly in it but it is also lost.

Trading is like a gambling addiction.
Dr. Parth Soni, a psychiatrist at Vadodara's Alpha Healing Centre, said that the 'dopamine hit' that one gets from trading is similar to a gambling addiction. In the beginning, when people make profits, they feel good. Then slowly it turns into an addiction. They think that one day they will be able to cover all their losses.

It is possible to treat a disease like trading addiction
Dr. Manoj Kumar Sharma, coordinator of the 'Service for Healthy Use of Technology' clinic in Bengaluru, said that people have now started to understand that trading addiction is also a disease like gambling or alcohol addiction and it is possible to treat it
