New Delhi. The NDA government led by PM Narendra Modi will implement 'one nation, one election' in its tenure. Along with this, the Modi government is countering every move of the Congress. These steps are expected to give a huge blow to the opposition. BJP sources also said that the census process will also start soon. Along with this, the state status of Jammu and Kashmir will be restored in the shortest possible time after the elections. Government sources told News18 that 'one nation, one election' will be an 'a reality'. He said that it will definitely be implemented in this tenure. In his address on the occasion of Independence Day last month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi advocated 'one nation, one election' and argued that frequent elections hinder the progress of the country.

PM Narendra Modi had said in his address from the ramparts of the Red Fort that the country will have to come forward for 'one nation, one election'. The Prime Minister had appealed to the political parties to ensure the progress of the country from the Red Fort and with the national tricolor as a witness. On the completion of 100 days of the third term of the NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, sources said that the unity within the ruling coalition will continue for the remaining term. He also asked the parties to ensure that national resources are used for the common man.

'One Nation One Election' BJP's Agenda
It is worth noting that 'One Nation One Election' is one of the major promises made by the BJP in its manifesto for the Lok Sabha elections. In March this year, a high-level panel headed by former President Ram Nath Kovind recommended holding simultaneous elections for the Lok Sabha and state assemblies as a first step. After which local body elections were to be held within 100 days. Apart from this, the Law Commission can recommend simultaneous elections for all three levels of government - Lok Sabha, state assemblies, and local bodies like municipalities and panchayats. Which will start from 2029 and there will be a provision for unity government in cases like no-confidence motion or no-confidence motion in the House.

Kovind Committee Report
Former President Ram Nath Kovind's panel has not set any time limit for holding simultaneous elections. It has proposed the formation of a 'group' to consider implementing the panel's recommendations. The panel has recommended 18 constitutional amendments. Most of which will not require the support of state assemblies. However, some constitutional amendment bills will be needed for this. Which will have to be passed by the Parliament.
