Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was born on 5 September 1888 in a poor family in Tirutani village in Tamil Nadu. Apart from being the first Vice President and second President of the country, he was also an excellent teacher. In the year 1962, when Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan took over as the President, some of his students had suggested celebrating his birthday. On this, the former President had said that instead of celebrating my birthday separately, it is better to celebrate September 5 as Teacher's Day.
