New Delhi. Bihar's Nightingale Sharda Sinha passed away on Tuesday night at the age of 72. She has been undergoing treatment at AIIMS, Delhi for the last few days. According to a statement issued by AIIMS, Sharda Sinha breathed her last at 9:20 pm. Prayers were being offered across the country for her well-being, but she lost the battle of life.
AIIMS said that Sharda Sinha suffered refractory shock due to septicemia and this is what killed her. Septicemia means that bacteria start affecting the blood of the body, which causes serious infection. In simple words, the blood of the body becomes contaminated.
Sharda Sinha (72) was an Indian folk and classical singer who belonged to Bihar. Padma Bhushan awardee Sharda Sinha was known for her Bhojpuri, Maithili, and Magahi folk songs. Sinha was on a ventilator after health complications caused by multiple myeloma (a type of blood cancer).
Folk singer Sharda Sinha was admitted to the ICU of Institute Rotary Cancer Hospital (IRCH), the cancer institute of AIIMS, last month. Known as 'Bihar Kokila', Sinha, born in Supaul, is famous in her home state and parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh for her folk songs sung on occasions like Chhath Puja and marriages. Some of Sinha's popular songs include 'Chhathi Maiya Aai Na Duariya', 'Kartik Mas Ijoriya', 'Dwar Chekai', 'Patna Se', and 'Koyal Bin'.
