On this day Lord Shiva is worshipped during Pradosh Kaal. Pradosh Kaal starts 45 minutes before sunset and lasts for 45 minutes after. When Pradosh Vrat falls on Monday, it is called Som Pradosh. According to the story of Shani Pradosh Vrat, in ancient times, a rich man lived in a town. His house had all kinds of comforts but he was not blessed with a child, due to which he was worried. Once, after much thought, the rich man handed over all his work to his servants and set out on a pilgrimage with his wife. When he came out of his town, he met a sadhu who was sitting in deep meditation. The rich man and his wife went and sat near the sadhu with the desire to get his blessings. When the sadhu opened his eyes, he realized that both of them were sitting in front of him for a long time waiting to get his blessings.

The saint said that I know your sorrow. To get rid of this sorrow, observe Shani Pradosh fast, by doing this you will definitely get the happiness of children. Then the saint told the Seth and his wife the method of observing Pradosh fast and also told them the following prayer to Lord Shankar.

The merchant and his wife took blessings from the saint and set out for the pilgrimage. After returning from the pilgrimage, both of them observed the Shani Pradosh fast together and due to the effect of this fast, a beautiful son was born in their house and their life was filled with happiness.
