Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday said the opposition India Bloc has defeated Prime Minister Narendra Modi psychologically. Addressing a public rally in Jammu and Kashmir's Ramban district, the Congress leader remarked that Prime Minister Modi had said his party cannot be defeated and has a direct connection with God.

Rahul Gandhi said, 'Prime Minister Modi openly said that he is non-biological, while the rest of India is organic. But in this election, God has given him a direct message, that he talks to the public and works according to their wishes.'

'Then BJP changed its stance'

The Congress leader said, ‘I am sitting in front of them in Parliament and their confidence has eroded. The India block stood together and fought unitedly. PM Modi wanted to bring people through lateral entry, but it was opposed and then the BJP changed its stance.’

He claimed that Narendra Modi is afraid of the people of the country and that Narendra Modi and the BJP have very little time left before they are ousted from power.

Gandhi said, 'We want brotherhood in the country, where everyone is respected and people talk to each other with respect. Vulnerable groups, whether they are farmers, laborers, or small business owners, should feel that they have a stake in this country. We want this to happen in Jammu and Kashmir as well.'

'By converting Jammu and Kashmir from a state to a union territory, the rights of the people have been taken away'

Earlier, the Lok Sabha MP took a dig at the Centre, saying that for the first time in Indian history, people's rights have been taken away by making Jammu and Kashmir a Union Territory from a state. 'In 1947, India adopted the Constitution. Kings were removed and democratic governments were elected. But in Jammu and Kashmir, affairs are being run by a king, and his name is Lieutenant Governor (LG),' he said.

When are the elections being held in Jammu and Kashmir?

Voting will be held in Jammu and Kashmir on September 18, September 25, and October 1. Voting will be held in Haryana on October 1. Counting of votes for both states will be held on October 8. Assembly elections were held in the erstwhile state in 2014 for 87 seats. At that time, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) led by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed won 28 seats, while the BJP surprised everyone by winning 25 seats. The then-ruling National Conference (NC) got 15 seats, while the Congress got 12 seats. The PDP and the BJP joined hands to form a government under the leadership of Sayeed in 2015. After Sayeed's death, his daughter Mehbooba Mufti became the Chief Minister, but the government fell in 2018 after the BJP withdrew support.
