Srinagar Garhwal: There are many mythological temples of Lord Shiva in Uttarakhand, but the importance of Kamleshwar Mahadev temple located in Srinagar Garhwal is considered special. According to the belief here, childless couples get children by performing the ritual of "Khade Diya" on the night of Kartik Shukla Chaturdashi. For this reason, childless couples from India and abroad come here to participate in this ritual. This year this ritual will be held on November 14, and the registration process has started. So far 48 childless couples have registered.

Mahant Ashutosh Puri of Kamleshwar Temple told Local 18 that 48 childless couples from Chennai, Jaipur, Delhi, Maharashtra, Punjab, Haryana, Noida, and Uttarakhand have registered. Preparations for the Baikunth Chaturdashi ritual are going on in full swing on behalf of the temple committee. Last year in 2023, 175 couples had registered. The Kamleshwar temple premises are being decorated for this auspicious occasion. CCTV cameras are also being installed for security. This year too, a large number of childless couples are expected to come, who will perform the ritual of Khadi Diya with the wish of having a child.

Mythological belief associated with Kamleshwar temple
It is believed that when there was a war between the gods and the demons and the gods started losing, they took refuge in Lord Vishnu. Lord Vishnu first decided to worship Lord Shiva and went to the place where the Kamleshwar Mahadev temple is now located, and offered lotus flowers to Shiva. But Lord Shiva hid a lotus with his power. Then Vishnu ji decided to offer his eye in place of the lotus. As soon as he tried to offer his eye, Lord Shiva appeared and gave him the Sudarshan Chakra. Since then it is believed that by performing the ritual of standing diya on Kartik Shukla Chaturdashi, childless couples get the blessings of children.
