- On the day of Nag Chaturthi, devotees worship snakes and snake deities.
- On this day, milk is offered in snake pits and eggs are placed near snake pits.
- Women observe a fast for the entire day and visit temples to bathe idols of the serpent god with water and milk.
- After this, turmeric is applied to the idols, and dots of kumkum are placed.
- After this, incense sticks and Prasad are offered and finally, Aarti is performed.
- Many people also chant mantras and Sarpa Suktam on this day.
- The Sarpa Suktam hymn is sung to seek the blessings of the nine serpent deities, namely, Shesha, Padmanabha, Kambala, Ananta, Vasuki, Dhritarashtra, Shankhapala, Takshaka and Kaliya.
