The reason behind his suicide was said to be harassment by his wife, which has started a discussion in the society. Questions are being raised on the incidents of women misusing the law and misbehaving with their husbands and their families. Many people are now demanding changes in the law.
Wife seeks divorce over husband's 'love for cats'
Meanwhile, another unique case has come to light. A woman in Karnataka cited her husband's love for cats as the reason for divorce. The woman filed a complaint in the court that her husband loves their pet cat very much and because of this she feels neglected.
Fight with cat and petition in High Court
This woman from Bangalore claimed that her pet cat attacked her several times. She accused her husband of ignoring her due to his excessive attachment to the cat. According to the report of the website "Law Trend", the woman filed a divorce petition in the court and cited this reason as the reason for sourness in their relationship.
Section 498A and the court's stance
In this case, the woman had filed a complaint under Section 498A of the IPC, which applies to cases related to dowry and marital cruelty. However, the court found that this case was not related to dowry or physical abuse. The court described it as an emotional conflict between husband and wife.
The High Court clarified that such petty domestic disputes cannot be categorised as criminal cases , giving a message of not putting unnecessary burden on the judiciary
. The court said that such minor cases should be resolved privately or through counselling. The judge emphasised the need to differentiate between trivial matters and serious domestic violence cases.
The court has put a temporary
stay on this matter for the time being and issued notice to both the parties. The court said that investigation of such cases puts unnecessary pressure on the judicial system and it should not be taken lightly.
