Mpox Outbreak In India: After the World Health Organization declared a public health emergency regarding 'Monkeypox' (MPox), the central government held a meeting with the states and asked them to be prepared to deal with it. The current virus of Monkeypox is more virile and spreads rapidly.

An alert has been issued at all airports in the country regarding monkeypox, hospitals have also been alerted and a meeting has been held with the states in which they have been asked to remain alert about it. There is no specific treatment for this. It will not affect those who have been vaccinated against smallpox, while Safdarjung, RML, and Lady Hardinge have been made nodal hospitals in Delhi.

A high-level meeting was held to review the preparedness status and related public health measures in India. While chairing the meeting, PK Mishra, Principal Advisor to Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that no case of ampox has been reported in the country, and as per the current assessment, the risk of its widespread spread is low. He said that Prime Minister Modi is constantly monitoring the ampox situation.

The official statement said that as per the advice of Prime Minister Modi, Mishra chaired a high-level meeting to review the status of approx preparedness in the country and related public health measures.

MPox infection usually lasts for 2-4 weeks

In the meeting, the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister was informed that the incubation period of Ampox infection is usually 2-4 weeks and patients with Ampox usually recover with supportive medical care and management. Health Secretary Chandra informed in the meeting that a meeting of experts was convened on August 12 by the National Centre for Disease Control to assess the threat to India and all appropriate steps are being taken for prevention.

International airports are being monitored by health teams

He said that monitoring is being done by health teams at international airports and guidelines have also been issued to the states in this regard. According to the statement, Mishra directed that surveillance should be increased and effective measures should be taken to detect the cases quickly.

He directed that a network of testing laboratories should be created for early diagnosis.

At present 32 laboratories are ready for testing

Mishra directed that protocols for prevention and treatment of the disease may be disseminated extensively. He stressed the need to run awareness campaigns among healthcare providers about the signs and symptoms of the disease and to strengthen the surveillance system.

Pakistan devised a strategy to deal with the threat of MPox

The Pakistan government has announced that it has formulated a comprehensive policy to deal with the ampox virus outbreak and people should not worry about its spread. Prime Minister's Health Coordinator Dr Mukhtar Ahmed told reporters that only one case has been reported in the country while surveillance and screening mechanisms are in place at all airports and entry points.
